Vincent P. Murphy

Vincent Murphy, age 85, departed peacefully from this life on March 19th at home in Naples, FL. He leaves the love of his life, Anne Giddings Murphy; his daughter, Patricia Hatfield (Gregory); son, Bob Murphy (wife Hongbin); granddaughter Katie Hatfield; grandson RJ Murphy; sister-in-law, Jane McCarthy (Deacon Ed) and their family; all the Murphy nieces and nephews, and hundreds of other friends and relatives who he claimed as family. He was born in New York City, proudly 1st generation Irish, grew up in Forest Hills, NY, graduated from Power Memorial and Fordham University. He served as a lieutenant in the Army at Fort Eustis, VA , lived in Garden City, NY and South Egremont, MA and Naples, FL.
Vincent never met a person he didn't like. He gathered these friends in the Garden City and Egremont Fire Departments, Habitat for Humanity, Make a Wish Foundation, North Naples Fire Dept. CERTS, the Long Island Railroad, Quail Creek Village and St. Agnes Church. Having retired as President of the Nolan Investigative and Security Company in New York City, he and Anne became Innkeepers for eighteen years in South Egremont. There he continued to interrogate folks and then forget their names....."what was the name of that person we just met?"...as he continued to recite all the details of their life. His sense of humor preceded him everywhere he went. 
He shared his enormous heart with everyone he met and took on their problems as his own. He always questioned and was determined to solve the mysteries of life. He was so proud of everyone, of their accomplishments and of their failures as well. 
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church Tuesday, March 27th at 1 p.m. A gathering in the Narthex of the church will be at 11:30 where the family will receive friends and loved ones. The church is located at 7775 Vanderbilt Beach Rd., Naples. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
