WILBUR R. NELLIS

Wilbur Roy Nellis, 101 died peacefully at his home in Naples, Florida on Sunday April 19, 2018. 

Wilbur was born on April 12, 1917 to Roy and Alta Nellis in Des Moines, Iowa..  He graduated from North High School.  He served in the U.S.  Army from April 1945 through August of 1946 and was involved in the occupation in Japan from October 1945 through August of 1946. He worked in Des Moines until retirement.  He was last employed as the manager of the home improvement department at the Merle Hay Mall Montgomery Ward store.

He was married to Betty Coolidge for 69 years, she preceded Wilbur in death in April of 2009.  Wilbur is survived by his son, Stephen C Nellis and daughter in law, Merrilee of Naples, Florida, three grandchildren Anne (Kurt) Richter of Washington, D.C., David Nellis of Denver, CO and Paul (Lizzie) of Norwood, MA; great grandson William Nellis Richter, and great granddaughters Charlotte Nellis Richter and Rosalind Beatrice Nellis  and several nieces and nephews.
