Tribute

John Donald Limpitlaw died on January 18, 2021.  He was 86 years old.

John was born January 4, 1935 in Queens, New York, the youngest son of Robert Limpitlaw and Olga Lang Limpitlaw, both immigrants.  He grew up in Lynbrook, New York on Long Island, graduated from Lynbrook High School, and attended Trinity College where he received a B.A. in Economics and English in 1956.  He worked in the field of Human Resources for 30+ years, starting at Marine Midland Trust Company, where he met his wife of 60 years, the former Susan Elizabeth Glover.  John was a successful Human Resources executive for several large corporations, his last position being Vice President of Human Resources at Macmillan Publishing.  After a successful career in business, John retired, attended Yale Divinity School where he received a M.A. in Divinity and served as vicar of the Parish of Christ Church in Easton, Connecticut for several years.

John and Susan were married in 1960 and had two children, Alison and Amy Elizabeth.  During retirement, John and Susan spent their time at their homes in Naples, Florida and Wellfleet, Massachusetts as well as traveling the globe.  During their retirement, John volunteered with Naples Hospice, served as a guardian ad litem, and was active in the parish of Trinity-by-the-Cove in Naples, occasionally filling in as a supply priest.

John is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughters, Alison Light and Amy Limpitlaw; his son-in-law, Robert Light; and his grandchildren, Alexander Light, Hazel Light, and Ian Light.

John will be remembered for his sincere interest in people, his hospitality and his caring and empathetic nature.  He loved meeting and getting to know people and was genuinely interested in who they were.  He was a devout Christian who accepted everyone and saw the good in everyone.  He lived life to the fullest and never lost his sense of gratitude and appreciation for all that life had given him.  His joy was his family, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

There will be a memorial service at Trinity-by-the-Cove on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
