Tribute

Naples, Florida, native, Kurt McGurren Lutgert, 49, passed away on October 14, 2021, at Avow Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. “May our light stay bright, even on the longest of night.” He was born November 28, 1971, to Scott F. Lutgert and Joy A. McGurren. Kurt was a generous and compassionate man to his friends, family, and all those he met. After graduating from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Gill, MA, Kurt earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Duke University. For many years Kurt worked as a real estate development executive who guided operations at The Lutgert Companies and helped establish Lutgert Construction under the parent companies’ umbrella. He managed the development of the 350-acre luxury golf course community – Estuary at Grey Oaks, which combined a spacious nature preserve and an exclusive enclave of 175 homes. Having completed degrees in philosophy and religion, Kurt turned his focus to spiritual development believing that everyone should “shine the light” that we already possess. He was in the process of writing a book and creating Whole Light Wellness, a 60-acre spiritual retreat located in Puerto Rico. As an author, philosopher, and speaker his goal was to support other people’s journey to achieve spiritual enlightenment and to help them understand how important it is to be mindful of the world and all its inhabitants. Kurt will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a kindhearted and gracious soul. He supported several charitable organizations that help those in need, including the Harry Chapin Food Bank, Hunger and Homeless Coalition, Plan International and Take Stock in Children. He is survived by his father, Scott F. Lutgert and stepmother of 19 years, Simone C. Lutgert of Naples, FL; his mother, Joy McGurren Whitmer of Lake Junaluska, NC; his siblings, Kim Confer, Kristin Cartwright (Brad Stevens), Erik Lutgert (Nicola) and Heather Dockweiler (Jamie) of Naples, FL, Rodney Weiss of Boulder County, CO, and Lana Gomez Maniscalco (Sebastian) of Los Angeles, CA; twelve nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who will miss him dearly. Kurt was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Raymond L. Lutgert and his wife Beverly Heilig Lutgert, his paternal grandmother Virginia “Ginny” Fox McDaniel and his maternal grandparents Carroll Brady McGurren and Henry “Hank” McGurren. On October 17, 2021, the family will have a Celebration of Life at Royal Poinciana Golf Club from 2:00pm4:00pm. Everyone is encouraged to wear bright colors. Kurt’s favorite color was blue. No denim.
