I learned about Stan's passing in the March/April issue of INTECH Magazine. Stan was a mentor to me in my early days at PC&E working at MEMC in St. Peters, MO. Stan introduced me to process instrumentation that I needed but could not find a source for. I could call Stan with a need and he would come to the plant to see the installation and requirements. Stan was patient and would explained different ways to control the process and then he would suggest a vendor who could supply the product. What Stan suggested always solved the problem.
While Stan could be serious, his sense of humor made young engineers feel comfortable asking for for his expert help. I thought about Stan after his retirement when ever I had a difficult problem and needed advice. I will miss him.

I lost my best friend and most valued and uniquely talented colleague. Stan entered my life at the right time giving me the best advice. We sought to share our knowledge over the next 40 years. We coauthored 4 uniquely insightfully humorous books on process instrumentation and a popular Control Talk column for 16 years. Stan influenced new generations of engineers who carry with them to this day a little bit of Stan. Many plants are running much better and safer due to Stan directly or indirectly. The world is a better place because of Stan.
