Thomas J. Dembofsky

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Joseph Dembofsky announces his passing after a brief illness, on November 13, 2017, at the age of 90 years.

Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years Constance Dembofsky of Naples Florida and by his children Charles Dembofsky and wife Meg of Stamford, CT; Karen Merritt and husband John of South Salem, NY; Bruce Dembofsky and wife Cindy of Wallingford, PA; Mathew Dembofsky of Naples, FL; and by his grandchildren Chris, Allyson, Laura, Chelsea, Andrew and Abigail.

Tom was born July 1927 in New York City. Son of Nathan and Alice (Meehan) Dembofsky, he served with United States Naval Reserve from 1945-1947 and from 1950-1952. Tom married Constance in 1954. He attended Columbia University in New York City earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University in 1957.

After graduating from Columbia, Tom lived briefly in Cambridge Massachusetts and then settled in Stamford Connecticut. He enjoyed a successful career in the publishing industry, holding many editorial and managerial positions at McGraw Hill, until his retirement in 1989.

Tom was an avid racket sports enthusiast and an accomplished squash, racquetball, platform tennis, and tennis player. He enjoyed sailing with his family on Long Island Sound and spending time in the mountains of Vermont, exploring the countryside and tending gardens at his summer home.

In his retirement years, Tom was active in the Naples community and served as a volunteer for the NCH Healthcare System. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner. Mostly, Tom enjoyed spending time with his wife Connie and his family.
