Welcome to the memorial page for

Deana Rosofsky

April 16, 2014
Deana Rosofsky (née Gerber) of Naples, FL, beloved wife of Dr. Paul Rosofsky and mother of Dr. Meryl Rosofsky, Stephanie Ross-Simon, and Bethany Sewell; mother-in-law of Mr. Lowell Simon and Mr. Brian Sewell; and grandmother of Jason and Spencer Sewell, died on April 16, 2014. She was 76.  The cause was complications of relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML).  Her grace and resilience in facing this disease were an inspiration to all who cared for her.
Deana Rosofsky was born in Meriden, Connecticut on July 22, 1937.  She was the daughter of Gertrude and Jacob Gerber.  She grew up in New Haven, Connecticut surrounded by a loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins and her maternal grandparents, Sarah and Sam Surasky.
Deana attended Hill House High School in New Haven and the University of Connecticut, where she majored in English. She worked in the publicity department at Viking Press and taught English to junior high school students in the early days of desegregation in New York City.  She later obtained a Master’s degree in Education at Trenton State College and worked as a career counselor and guidance counselor.
She met Paul Rosofsky, her “knight in shining armor,” on a blind date in Miami. They were engaged on her birthday, July 22, and were wed 5 months later on December 16, 1962 in New Haven.  The couple made their home in Willingboro, NJ where they raised three daughters and were pillars of the Reform Jewish community, helping to establish Temple Emanu-el of Willingboro. Their life was infused by Jewish values.  After Paul retired from dentistry in 1999, Deana and Paul moved to Naples, FL where they “found paradise” and a wonderful circle of friends.
Deana was an exceptional cook and gifted hostess.  She enjoyed reading the latest fiction and was an active participant in book clubs for decades.  She especially loved visiting her daughters and grandsons in New York, Beverly Hills, and Pennsylvania; attending Friday night services; and most of all, spending time with her beloved husband of 51 years.  She took great delight in dining out with him, overnighting at country inns, and taking the occasional cruise (“There’s nothing finer than the ‘liner,” she was fond of saying).
Deana is survived by her husband Paul; daughters Meryl (& Stuart), Stephanie (& Lowell), and Bethany (& Brian); two grandsons, Jason and Spencer; her Aunt Florry and many cousins; as well as her brother-in-law, Dr. Stephen Rosofsky.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 1:30pm at Temple Shalom, 4630 Pine Ridge Rd., Naples, FL.  Interment will be in Palm Royale Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Shalom of Naples (www.naplestemple.org/tikkun/donate/).
