Lawrence Joseph Fikes

Lawrence J. Fikes, 73, a Naples resident since 2000, passed away on May 25, 2017.  He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 21, 1943.  Larry was a graduate of Chaminade College Preparatory and St. Louis University. He served in Vietnam as a finance officer and 1st Lieutenant in the US Army.  His entire career was in retail management with Famous Barr-May Company (now Macy’s), Syms and SteinMart.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Montani Fikes, a daughter Elizabeth (Jeff Ford), a son Christopher (Amy) and granddaughters, Katherine Ford, Victoria Ford and Loraine Fikes.  He also leaves behind a brother Herman Fikes (Carol), a sister JoAnn Smith (Barry), Linda’s sister Carla Grieve (Bill), her brothers John Montani (Liz) and Charles Montani (Maria) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and William Fikes and a brother William.

Among the blessings of faith, family and friends was the awesome gift of a new heart in 2009 to replace one severely damaged by a heart attack.

Larry will be remembered as an optimistic, warm, outgoing man who never met a stranger.  He greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word.  He loved living in Naples, traveling, playing golf and being with friends.   He was especially thrilled by his hole-in-one in 2014. 

A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, May 30th at 10am at St. William’s Catholic Church in Naples.  A mass celebrating his life will be held in St. Louis around his birthday.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to The Chaminade Fund 425 S. Lindbergh Blvd St. Louis, MO 63131.
