The Leonard Family would like to express our condolences to the Duffy family upon the passing of Mr.. Patrick J. Duffy. We have known and loved Mr. Duffy for years as all of my grandchildren
attended Seacrest Country Day School. Isaiah was fortunate to have Mr. Duffy in class as he taught him Latin. He always spoke so highly of Mr. Duffy and enjoyed him as sports announcer for his basketball games at Seacrest. We would have attended the visitation; however, by the time we read the obituary in Tuesday's paper, those occasions were over. We are so sorry to have missed them.

Blessed Erin and family, my heart broke as I read Winnie's email to the Christendom alumni. I certainly offered prayers for Pat, and for you all through the day of his passing, and continue to do so now. I am so grateful for the impact he, and you Erin, made on my life. You were the perfect balance, aiding young freshmen and sophomore students in the transition to college life. Your joy and integration of faith and education were contagious. I remember fondly the hours in Development, and always think of you when polishing my shoes. Though I only got the funeral arrangements yesterday afternoon, I seriously considered driving down from Atlanta by myself, just for the funeral--so much did Pat and you, and your family mean to me even across the years. Please know that you remain in my prayers, and if you are ever up through Atlanta, please let me know.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord.....

I will always fondly remember Pat as the little brother of my best friend. Pat was always a kind and gentle person.. Pat had a crazy sense of humor and a loving spirit. Though I havent seen him in many years, it is obvious he lived a full and wonderful life and will be missed by all that knew him. I know he is deeply loved and missed by his family and others. Though he is gone, his memory will live on in your hearts forever. May God Bless!

I grew up with Pat and back in the 60’s and 70’s our families were very close. I can remember dinners together at his house or ours, a family trip together, and annual Super Bowls. Of course Pat was closest in age to me so we enjoyed playing putt putt down our hallway and getting under our sisters skin! So sorry we hadn’t stayed in touch but I am so proud of his accomplishments . My deepest sympathy and prayers to his wife Erin, and to all of the family who have loved him. May your memories fill you up during this sad time. So happy to have had Pat be part of my life!

To Patrick's Mom, Sisters, Erin, and family: I am sorry to learn of Patrick's passing. As children, we played together. Our families were friends and lived in the same town. I remember Erin when the couple dated, then married. Although our paths have not crossed in so many years, I remember his smile and laughter. I recall his passion for Sanskrit, and was awed by his intense study of it. The pride his family has in all he accomplished and who he was, will live on in hearts and memories and through those he inspired. May God bless his soul and comfort his family. Our sincerest sympathy, Thom and Lynn Cook Betz, North Carolina

Remember when Duffy's cell phone would ring in the middle of class, he would look around sneakily, and answer it as follows:

"Yes, Holy Father. Always good to hear from you. Yes, Holy Father, it's dative. Yes, Holy Father, I know how tricky the cases are."

Then he would hang up, muttering that JPII really needed to work on his Latin. We'll miss you, Mr. Duffy!

Patrick Duffy played a huge role in my life. He inspired me to love and study languages; he radiated humility and humor; he was a brilliant intellect and a man of deep kindness. He wore his learning so lightly—I would put his Latin, Greek, or Sanskrit up against anyone’s. My wife and I have so many memories of his jokes, his classes, his enthusiasm for life and everything human. May God rest him. I pray that he’s playing his guitar with the angels, trading jokes with the saints, and smoking cigarettes with the prophets and patriarchs. God rest you, my friend. I sure as heck will never forget you.

Patrick taught me the Latin that I use every week at mass. The words he gave me on earth I will use in mass to be a voice for him to heaven. God Bless.
